FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JAX Mass Transit Launches Public Survey for Comprehensive Transit Study
Carbondale, January 14, 2025 – JAX Mass Transit is seeking your input! The agency is excited to announce the launch of a public survey to gather valuable feedback for its Comprehensive Transit Study currently underway. This study is a 12-month endeavor that aims to improve public transportation operations and infrastructure, enhance mobility, and better address the transportation needs of Jackson County residents and visitors. A formal kick-off of the planning effort occurred September 2024; the effort will conclude August 2025.
The planning initiative consists of a comprehensive and data-driven analysis of local market conditions and administrative structure, existing services, organizational policies and procedures, and capital assets for JAX Mass Transit. An assessment of transportation needs for community members is conducted through a defined and involved public engagement campaign. The public survey is just one activity under a comprehensive campaign to garner feedback from local residents.
Your voice matters! Public input will be essential in shaping the future of public transportation in Jackson County and surrounding areas, ensuring that the plans reflect the needs and priorities of all community members.
The public survey is now live and available on the project page of the JAX website: https://ridejax.com/jax-on-the-move/, and can be completed from any device. The survey is also available in hard copy format at the JAX Mass Transit Administrative Office located at: 975 Charles Road (Carbondale). Additionally, a hard copy can be mailed to your address. Please contact RLS & Associates at 937-299-5007 to request a survey by mail. The survey is available in English, Spanish, and alternative formats to meet the needs of all community members within the county. The survey will be open for approximately 4 weeks and will close on Friday, February 14, 2025.
“We value the perspectives of all those who live, work, and travel in Jackson County,” said Shawn Freeman, Chief Executive Officer of JAX Mass Transit. “This survey is an opportunity for residents and visitors to share their experiences and help us make informed decisions that will improve our transportation system for years to come.”
The results from the survey will be analyzed to identify trends, transportation challenges and barriers, and opportunities, and will serve as a foundation for the development of actionable recommendations and mid-term improvements. Feedback gathered through the survey will directly influence transportation projects, funding priorities, and policy decisions moving forward.
To encourage widespread participation, JAX Mass Transit will also host a series of community conversations and a virtual town hall meeting, where community members can learn more about the study and provide input.
