Prioritizing your needs, redefining the future of transit in Jackson County

JAX Mass Transit is adopting a fresh and innovative look at the foundation of its transit system, focusing on future enhancements to its transportation network and improving the overall customer experience. The JAX On the Move initiative aims to foster community connections, improve accessibility, and ensure that every rider, regardless of their location, can depend on public transit programs and services administered by JAX.

Community Connections 

The core element of the JAX On the Move initiative is public engagement and community outreach. A comprehensive public engagement campaign was established to drive the study and ensure the voices and needs of community members are heard. This campaign includes a variety of outreach activities, including,

  • an onboard customer survey effort,
  • a public survey effort,
  • community pop-up events,
  • town hall meetings
  • interactive workshops, and
  • social media engagements

Draft service alternatives were developed with input gathered from activities occurring under Phase I of the study’s Public Engagement Campaign.

Phase II of the Public Engagement Campaign will kick-off in late April 2025 with a series of community events. Please join us for a community conversation to learn more and provide comment on the proposed service alternatives.

Comprehensive Transit Study

JAX Mass Transit initiated a Comprehensive Transit Study in Fall 2024. This twelve-month planning effort accounts for recent network revisions and builds upon recent system enhancements, reinforcing our commitment to improving the system to better serve the residents and visitors of Jackson County. The recommendations resulting from the study will form the basis for future operational, administrative, facility, and passenger infrastructure improvements, as well as internal policy updates for JAX.

The study effort is focused on identifying the transportation needs of community members and establishing realistic options for future service improvements to increase system and operational efficiencies and enhance the customer experience. Additionally, the study prioritizes improving accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that transportation services are equitable and meet the needs of all Jackson County residents.

An onboard survey effort occurred in November 2024 to capture input from current riders. Our public survey is now live and will close on Friday, February 14, 2025 (see below for details). Special efforts are made to include underrepresented and marginalized groups, ensuring that the transportation needs of the entire community are considered. Survey instruments and promotional materials are translated to Spanish and available in alternative formats, as requested. Stay tuned for details on how you can participate!
