JAX Mass Transit is Expanding to Murphysboro
Expanding to Murphysboro
JAX Mass Transit is expanding to Murphysboro! Although Carbondale is the most populous city in Jackson County, Murphysboro will play a vital role in connecting rural Jackson County to the JAX fixed-route system.
Since the creation of the district in 1992, JAX has operated out of Carbondale as its base with all routes beginning and terminating in Carbondale. JAX has been awarded $1.5million dollars to build a new depot in the city of Murphysboro. The proposed facility will support transit operations throughout the rural areas of the county and Murphysboro.
Our expansion to Murphysboro will support our ability to operate reliably. Furthermore, the central location in downtown will serve as our base of rural operation and allow JAX to interact more closely with the community. The new depot will also support increased shuttle service within Murphysboro and future expansion of services.
